Tempe Updates Its Parks & Recreation Master Plan

The Tempe City Council gave final approval to the Tempe Parks & Recreation Master Plan on June 22nd.

The online plan provides interactive maps, access to linked documents and the ability to print the plan. Duane Washkowiak, WeSERV member and Chair of Tempe Parks Board, was one of the plan technical advisors to the city. Planning took place over an 18-month period.

As part of the plan, you will be able to access several interactive maps including:
Tempe Development Projects Map
Population Projections Map
Current Parks and Recreation sites
Parks Classification Map

Tempe has 75 park and recreation sites owned and managed by the City. The sites include 59 parks, 2 golf courses, 3 sports complexes, 4 specialty parks and the historic cemetery.

The facilities include baseball/softball fields, multi-use fields, sports courts, recreation centers, disc golf, dog parks, lakes and ponds, playgrounds, swimming pools, skate parks and splash pads.

The plan addresses the need to expand and maintain parks and recreation facilities. You can read the Parks Capital Improvements Plan to see planned improvements at several parks.

Included in this plan are the Kiwanis Park Management Plan, Rio Salado & Tempe Beach Plan and the Aquatic Needs Assessment Study.

This was a huge project. Thanks Duane, Tempe Staff and all who contributed to this detailed assessment of facilities now, and planning for the future recreation of Tempe.
