Maricopa County Recorder Announces All-Mail Voting

Maricopa County Recorder Adrian Fontes @RecorderFontes announced all-mail voting for local elections along with other changes.

No more polling places, but instead Ballot Centers if you choose to not mail your ballot. Mr. Fontes expects the total number of Ballot Centers to exceed 100. Unlike Polling Places, Ballot Centers can accommodate more people and are open to any voter. As the election grows closer, the County Recorder’s Office will distribute a list and map of Ballot Centers across the County. Ballot Centers will open 27 days before Election Day with additional centers opening 10 days and 4 days prior to Election Day.

I.D. requirements will be different as well. You may show your Driver’s License or Voter Registration Card. If you don’t have either of those items, you can provide your name, birth date and social security number to receive a ballot. Your identity will be verified by computer, your ballot will be printed out and a worker will give you your ballot.

The Arizona Republic had a good article on the upcoming changes and KJZZ interviewed Mr. Fontes.

Look for changes in Arizona State Election law during the 2018 Legislative session. Currently not all elections can be all-mail elections, like State Legislature and Governor races.
