Mayor Tovar was elected to the Tolleson City Council in 2016. Previous to that she was State Senator representing District 19 (Avondale, Tolleson and West Phoenix) from 2009 to 2015.
She has worked in her community as a teacher, worked on infrastructure, affordable healthcare and building a strong economy. As a two time cancer survivor, she has worked as a Campaign Director for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.
